Monday Morning Moment: Dream

By Heather Cameron 12 Comments

Top-of-the-Mtn-with-quote

‘A goal is a dream with a deadline.’ Napoleon Hill

A brilliant statement! We all have dreams, and the people who tend to realize their dreams are the people who set a goal with a target or deadline.

I’m a bit of a Olympic junkie, particular the winter Olympics. The athletes set a goal are drive toward it – To be an Olympic athlete! For some it is to win a medal but for many it is to represent their country at the Olympics.  What a thrill to be able set such a clear goal and to achieve it.

What goals do you have? Have you set a deadline or a time frame? If not what are you waiting for? What will make you commit to being your best?

I love this! I talk about this a lot in my program, if you have a goal and it’s clear enough you tend to complete it.

Thank you for sharing Heather and I like to set small goals first and then work on to bigger things.

Merle: Seems to be a theme, setting small goals and working to a larger one. A lesson for many people.

      Thanks for sharing.

    Heather,
I LOVE this post. It’s a great example of simple and easy, yet effective.
I also love the message. I used to be a big dreamer, but that was about all I would accomplish.
I agree with Christian about taking one bite of the elephant at a time.
Being a transpersonal psychology counsellor, I have another tidbit to add. People always think the doing comes first. What do I need to do? Then we get to have a certain experience. I say it’s the other way around.
The way I see it is the Universe wants to give us what we want. Our part of the deal is that we have to show the Universe the experience we want and it will lead us in that direction. We show the Universe what we want by our feelings. Our feelings are the Universe’s compass in other words. So, we had better get in touch with our own personal emotional road map and make sure we are heading the Universe in the right direction.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of the word ‘goals’. I prefer to use the word ‘outcomes’ instead, as, to me it seems much more definitive of an endpoint.

I like to break mine down into manageable, measurable milestones that allow me to track my progress towards the bigger outcome… and deadlines are a HUGE part of that.

Christian – That a great way to look at it. Your point about manageable pieces is important. When we don’t breakdown them down we tend not to achieve them.

      Thank you for sharing.

Wow, that is a very powerful quote. Each Olympic athlete has a dream and working towards the dream is when you know you have to compete when you qualify. Each day you work hard and eventually when you get there you showcase your hard work that you been doing in the off season. Thanks for the great post!

Nate, that is a great point. Olympic athletes work hard EACH DAY! They focus on every detail of their sport. I’ve just watched ski jumping and the every detail makes the difference between a qualify or not. Getting medal or not. They start with a passion, a talent but then the work hard and stay focused.

Hum, another post out of that. 😉

I absolutely agree that setting a goal is the only way that we will realize our dreams! I like setting small goals that are easily attainable in order to build confidence and instill habits. Once the healthy habit is formed I then work my way up to achieve bigger and greater goals..
