How often do you hear “you have to focus on your SEO”? Are you confused about where to put your money and your efforts?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. As far as I can tell it is an ever moving target with lots of buzz around it. It is difficult to pin down exactly what you need to do.
One of my favorite blogs to follow is Quick Sprout. Neil Patel provide top quality information and advice for businesses in actionable steps.
I love the infographic that he created “What SEO Used to Be Versus What SEO Is Now!”
SEO now is about providing engagement and providing quality content – “Create content to provide real value to your audience.”
Now this is something I can wrap my head around and understand! I know personally I stay engaged and active with companies and websites that provide content and I’ve personally seen my ranking and website traffic increase by providing solid content to my readers.

Great post. I love the infographic. I especially love how it mentions creating valuable content for engagement. That is powerful!
A, Lynn – Thanks, I love it too. It is showing quality matters. Thanks for commenting.
Really nice infographic! Great information too! thanks!
Caroline – I hope you find it of value and thanks for stopping by.
Very nicely done graphic! SEO and search engine’s are always changing. It seems when you finally get things running smoothly, it changes again!
Sharon, They are always changing which is why I like the direction they are going. Solid, valuable content is rewarded versus play an SEO game.
This is very helpful to me. My eyes cross over when I think about SEO because I really don’t understand it all. This info graphic helps me to begin to sort it all out.
Ines Roe, I’m with you, my eyes cross over as well and I have some understanding of it. That is why I like what they publish on quicksprout as it is always help and real.
Love the QuickSprout infographic, especially kewl to see the comparisons. This isn’t something I’ve done much with or even researched (maybe not my wisest choice and it’s the truth!). I think finding that balance is important and I’m working toward that as I’ve find what I want to do/be when I grow up (oh ,wait, don’t want to do that bit!)
Thanks for the wonderful info…so very much appreciated!
Laugh lots, Love more!

MamaRed – I understand, it isn’t something that I was very good at. Key word research and back links. My strength is find good information and passing it on to my audience.
These are great graphics and I love the way SEO has morphed based on them. From the beginning, I wasn’t willing (as an writer and author) to play the game I learned a lot of other people were doing with spammy type back links just to increase rankings. For me content and quality has always been the key I’ve focused on and I still resist the “perfect keyword” idea and work a bit more intuitively and use words that directly relate to who I am and what I offer to potential readers in my pieces. Still learning of course and this is a great article to refer back to and share with others, Heather. Thanks!
Beverley – Very good point about spammy links back. The older method of SEO did promote practices that weren’t necessarily valuable to the audience. I’m with you, quality is more important, getting what my audience wants and needs.
This is very interesting. I’ve been working hard on SEO since the launching of our new sites. According to the web designer, between now and the holidays is not the time to worry too much about it,and then ramp it up some more after Christmas (he says I have other forms of advertising to do now). I’m going to keep these charts for further reference. Thanks so much.
Tina – That is interesting advice from you website designer. I’m sure this is your big session coming up.
It is amazing how SEO has changes and for the better. Now you have to produce quality content that keeps your audience engaged
Veronica – It is definitely for the better. Sites like your provide so much value they should rank higher than a site that has managed to capture a few key words.
Glad I wasnt around for the old SEO. I like engaging, connecting, communicating meaningful content.
Roslyn – I agree with you. I still knowing the keywords is important but providing good quality content is so much more interesting.
Great information and graphics to help make SEO easier to understand so that we can implement the necessary changes to optimize our content.
Meryl – I agree, the information on QuickSprout is always useful and well presented.
