Today is Five Minute Friday Blog Challenge started by Lisa-Jo Baker. Every Friday she’s post a word then hundreds of people blog for five minutes on the topic and support each other. It is a fun way to end the week. Today’s word is Fight.
Fight – If I look at successful entrepreneurs one thing they have in common is that they fight to create a successful business. I don’t mean they fight other people. I mean they fight through all of the obstacles that get their way. They work things out and keep their eye on their target.
“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” – Henry Ford
As business owners there are many obstacles that we face and we need to “fight” our way through them to reach our own potential. Often the biggest obstacle that we need to fight is ourselves, our own ability to focus and not get derailed or overwhelmed by doubts or roadblocks.
“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”– Michael Jordan
What obstacles do you have to fight through in order to reach your goals and take your business to the next level? What is standing in the way of your success?

If I had to pick one thing it probably would be procrastination or rather being distracted by so many other things that I am calling procrastination.
I love what you said: “Often the biggest obstacle that we need to fight is ourselves, our own ability to focus and not get derailed or overwhelmed by doubts or roadblocks.” In speaking for myself, I would say that the biggest obstacle is the part of me that is still stuck in some less than productive habits.
Good post, Heather.

Rochelle – thank you. I think we all suffer from “less than productive habits”, or at least I do as well. Thanks you for commenting. I loved your post “The Doorway Made Me Forget.”

Hi Heather,
The first thing that popped into my mind when I think of ‘fight’ is how sick and tired I became of the Infocrap out there. There was so much of it to sort through when I was a newbie. It just keeps getting worse, doesn’t it? A person often has to fight the forces of Infocrap evil so that their business can prevail.
Heather Cameron says
Rachel: Love you comment, Infocrap is everywhere and as online bloggers/marketers we contribute to it in a way. The question is how do we do so we are not Inforcarp but value information. Food for thought. Thanks.

I was really surprised when I read your post! It is unique. Most of the writers write about more personal things but you went in another direction. I love that you are encouraging people to fight for their dream and in a very helpful and practical way. Thank you!
Heather Cameron says
Mrs Kim – Thank you for commenting. I do believe we have to fight for our dreams and often we are fighting ourselves. Our self doubts and all the obstacles we put in our own way. As I’m a business coach my focus is on helping businesses but this applies to all aspects of our lives.

Very encouraging! My husband just bought a few leadership books and they all talk about fighting. Instead of seeing something as a failure, it needs to be an obstacle like you said that needs to be worked through! Thank you for this post!
Heather Cameron says
Kristin – Thank you for commenting. Re-framing something from a failure to an obstacle is a great way to set mind on the right course. There is a positive challenge in overcoming an obstacle and when our mind are challenged in the right way we get focused. We focus on getting over, around or through that obstacle to get to the other side.

Great use of the word! I love it. Yes, we DO have to sometimes fight for what we want.
Heather Cameron says
Nicole – thanks for commenting, yes we do. The fun part is that when we do fight and overcome a obstacle we feel a great sent of accomplishment.
