Today is Five Minute Friday Blog Challenge started by Lisa-Jo Baker. Every Friday she’s post a topic and then hundreds of people blog and supporting each other. It is a fun way to end the week.
Grace – When I think of the business people I admire the most they behave with grace, particularly in how they interact with people. One dictionary definition of the word grace is “a pleasing or charming quality”.
One of my colleagues comes to mind when I think of someone who behaves with grace in all business situations. She is a CEO of a very successful international company. Her industry is dominated by men, highly regulated and had a high volume of daily sales. Her job is high pressure and high stress. She naturally approaches every situation and person with grace even in very stressful situations. When you are talking with her, be it in a networking situation or in a meeting, she is focused and interested in you. She accept “reject” of her service with grace and show appreciating that you took the time to consider her offer.
Unfortunately in the fast paced world of business these days the quality of grace is often left behind. Those people who do naturally behave with grace really do stand out.
Can you think of people who have the quality no matter what they are doing? Do you know people who show grace even in defeat? How do they make you feel?

I have always heard of grace as a spiritual discipline, or as part of movement/dance (i.e., Fred Astaire was a graceful dancer). I never thought of grace as a business discipline Thank you for sharing 🙂
What a wonderful quality to have. I am glad you spotlighted this.
Great idea for writing a blog – 5 minutes of free writing. I did this during a challenge recently and was pleasantly surprised at how much I could write in that time – it just flows, because your mind has to fill the void.
Hi Heather!
I’d never really thought about it before but yes, I do know several people with grace. I just didn’t know that is what you’d call someone with a calming demeanour 🙂 I am proud to say that I do have natural grace and people comment about how calm and comforting I am in any situation. It has taken many years to perfect though 🙂
Thanks for a great article! Really made me think.
I have to say that grace doesn’t always come naturally. I congratulate you, Sonia, for cultivating it. This is something I aim at yet do not always succeed.
I love the concept of a five minute blog – what a great idea.
As for Grace – for me it falls in two camps – Grace & Elegance and Grace and Tranquility.
Those people that always seem to be calm whatever the situation and those people that look effortless all the time (maybe in reality it’s the swan above the water and paddling widely underneath – who knows)
Lorraine: I do love Five Minute Fridays, it makes the creating at the end of week easier. It can be a challenge to sometimes tie the word back to my business focus and I’m find that actually the most fun part. I like you idea of different camps and I think you are right there are different combinations. I’m sure there is a part of “Swan above the water” but what a powerful way to present yourself to the world.
Grace is something I aspire to and sometimes succeed at. There is an inner strength that radiates in moments of grace, and I find that encouraging in the leaders who display it. You can’t help but trust that.
Short and sweet but full of great value. Thanks for sharing
Heather,
I can think of several people who exhibit grace in stressful situations. The best part about these people is that they make you feel a sense of calm and trust when you are around them. This is something that I admire and aspire to.
Lots of love,
Melody
Beautiful writing. I love your blog!
