Ignite Your Market Challenge: Reflect

By Heather Cameron 29 Comments

The Ignite Your Market Weekly Challenge’s goal is to create simple but powerful actions that you can do each week that will help you:

  • Identify your market and opportunities.
  • Connect with your client and prospects.
  • Ignite your markets and your businesses

THIS WEEK’S IGNITE YOUR MARKET CHALLENGE: REFLECT!

Business owners often focused on what we need to do, what we haven’t done, and what isn’t working. From my experience business owners rarely take a moment and look back at what they’ve accomplished except at the end of the year.

I strongly believe that business owners need to look back at what they’ve accomplished every 90 days, at the end of each quarter of their year. We need to do “mini” reviews and plan every 90 days to stay on track and be on top of our business success.

This week’s challenge is to do just that.

Look back at what you’ve accomplished as a business owner in the last 90 days and celebrate your success. List your 5 biggest accomplishments, they could be tangible accomplishments, such as signed on a big new client, launching a new product or service or growing your traffic. Or they can be intangible accomplishments; for example, I was working with a client this week who had a huge shift in perspective about herself as a business owner. It was a realization that will change her business moving forward, it isn’t measurable yet; however, it will change how she makes every decision about her business.

Allow yourself a moment to be proud of what you’ve accomplished. Acknowledge what it took to accomplish them and what can you take from each as your move forward in your business.

This exercise is particularly important for those who are struggling in their business or not seeing the results they want. Be proud of the fact that you’re on the journey of working for yourself. Be proud of each step you take.

The challenge this week is to look back over the last 90 days (1st quarter of the year) and identify your 5 biggest accomplishments and celebrate them.

Please share one or two of your accomplishments below. Let’s celebrate together!

How timely that you are blogging about this, Heather. I was just saying this week that I need some alone time to reflect on where I am and where I’m going… Confirmation! YAY! 🙂

I recently signed in a new client who has a huge need for better nutrition habits. I’ve accepted the challenge of helping her accomplish her goals.
I’ve also learned how to design graphics… I’m still a work in process but am encouraged with what I’ve been able to accomplish so far.
Thanks for encouraging me to take stock of some recent accomplishments.

Wow ! I really needed that. I do have to stop and reflect on how much I have accomplished. It is too easy to lose sight of that and it feels good to look back and reflect.

Ines – Definitely stop and reflect and celebrate. It is easy to look only forward, or backwards with critical eye.

Thanks for contributing to this post.

I’ve taken on a practice of being present to being grateful moment to moment. Your blog has me appreciating how far I’ve come in learning about social media marketing and the new skills I’ve acquired. And thanks to people like you who shine the spotlight on tips and info that make a difference.

This is an eye opener, Heather. So often, we focus on what has to be done, how to improve, what we’re missing…etc…and don’t give enough credit for what we have accomplished! Thanks so much for posting this. It made me think … a lot. Excellent post!

Alexandra – I’m glad it made you think. We don’t give enough credit to what we’ve accomplished and we rarely celebrate it. Thanks for commenting.

This was so needed. The realisation that it is October and we’re in the last 1/4 of the year hit me earlier, quickly followed by the wave of “I haven’t done’s”.
3 accomplishments that sound insignificant – but were actually HUGE hurdles:
Beaten my fear of speaking to video
Booked 2 dates to present live training workshops
Grown my client base with people who appreciate what I can do (and got rid of those who don’t!)

THANK YOU for giving me the kick to stop and be grateful for what I have achieved so far 🙂

I agree! We get so wrapped up in what we need still need to do that we forget what all we have done that has gotten us to where we are. We need to celebrate all achievements, no matter what they are or the size of them. This will help give you the personal motivation to continue on.

Meryl – Celebrating our accomplishments can be such a great motivator. Even if things are going as well as you’d like, the fact that someone has stuck it out, is still working at what they love is an accomplishment.

As I was reading this Heather, I couldn’t help but think that the idea of reflecting on what we have accomplished, applies to all parts of our lives, not only business. It is such an important thing to remind ourselves of this and to take the time to acknowledge ourselves. Too often in life, we are focused on the things we haven’t done yet and the things left to do. Enjoyed this post very much!

Beverly – you are absolutely right. It applies to all aspects of our lives. We’ve learnt to be critical instead appreciative. We focus on we haven’t… versus what we have…

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Ashley – That it is we forget to celebrate and we get hung up in the “we have to..” or “we aren’t”.
