Each Monday I will share an Ignite Your Market Weekly Challenge for you to consider for your business. I’ll be reusing ones from the past that are still great challenges, like the one below, and I’ll be creating new ones.
The goal of the Ignite Your Market Weekly Challenge is to create a simple but powerful action that you can do each week that will help you:
- Identify your market and opportunities.
- Connect with your client and prospects.
- Ignite your markets and your businesses.
THIS WEEK’S IGNITE YOUR MARKET CHALLENGE: TESTIMONIALS!
“Testimonials. Testimonials are so powerful because they come from someone else. Having testimonials from people in our network is a terrific way to establish credibility and trust. You can use them in many creative ways, on your website, on social media, during an event, at a trade show and your print material. If you ask a trusted colleague or client for a testimonial, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how happy they will be to supply them.”
This week’s Ignite Your Market Challenge: Ask for one new testimonial and get it!
The best format for testimonials are, in order, video, audio and then written. So strive for a video testimonial if you can. It doesn’t have to professionally done, the important part is that it comes from someone whose seen results from working with you and is open to sharing it.
Are you up for the challenge? Who will you ask? Please share your commitment in the comments below.

Really good advice once again Heather!
Because as you pointed out, testimonials are the bridge to much bigger and profitable long term credibility.
And judging by some of the following up questions in some of the comments, that I read you might seriously need to consider either (A) creating some type free special report and or pod cast entitled : X number of ways to get your best customers and clients to line up to give you the testimonials that you deserve!”
Or create a pod cast or Google Hangout and offer it as an additional free bonus for what else? A testimonial.
Great advice Heather! And thanks for sharing it!

Mark: Great idea, thank you for that. I need to do some updating on my freebies and this would be a very useful one to add. Thanks!

Heather: So glad I found this blog when I did, but we both know there are no co-incidences, right? LOve that dialogue “How do you get a testimonial” –> “ask for it”. Sometimes we just overcomplicate things 🙂 Might I ask you again the same question Lisa did above “Any tips for how to “convince” clients that a video testimony isn’t that hard?”. Look forward to your blog on that subject. Thank You, Thank YOU, THANK YOU. prp

Hi Heather,
People SO vibe with testimonials because word of mouth marketing is the most powerful advertising on earth. We trust what our friends say, and act on their advice. Thanks for the smart share!
Lisa Mallis says
The first few times I created video testimonials I thought they needed to be perfect. Then I realized – people just want you to be authentic. I find most of my clients want to give a written testimonial. Any tips for how to “convince” clients that a video testimony isn’t that hard?

Heather,
I love this idea! I just had a speaking engagement, which went well. I asked for a testimonial. The organizer was so happy to give me one but she was unable to post it on my website. She commented on my blog post about the speaking engagement informally. I wonder if I dare ask her if she can give even a thirty-second video testimonial?
Such a wonderful idea I never thought of until reading this post.
Thanks for the great idea!
Amy
Heather Cameron says
Amy – Definitely ask her! That is the type of testimonial you need. As I said it doesn’t have to be professionally done. Shot on Smartphone or webcam. Congratulations on having a great speaking engagement.
Alana says
No business I patronize frequently has EVER asked me for a testimonial. And, you know what? I would give one!
Heather Cameron says
Alana – so true! We as business owners don’t ask and we have to learn to ask. We have raring fans. The problem is we’ve trained not to ask for complements and yet we buy based on testimonials. Thanks for you great insight, it a strong message to businesses who do not ask.

This sounds like a GREAT challenge, Heather! I’ll have to think about it–but not for long. I’m going to work on it!
Heather Cameron says
Amy – Yes we can stay at “think about it” for too long. That is why I started the challenge to get to “work on it”. I know because I can think about it for way too long.
