As a distributor of Shaklee organic health products, it is ‘scary’ to decide to focus on one audience thinking that I may be cutting off other potential customers. Guess I just have to take the step and focus on one audience i.e. Women who want to lose 5-10 pounds then assess what happens. Do you think a one month pilot project, as it were, would be enough time to see if a narrow focus like that is working? What amount of time would you suggest for making an accurate assessment? Thanks.

Hilary: Yes it is scary to focus on one audience. Generally when you get to the scary point you are getting close to a workable niche. In your example how much more specific will your message be if you are targeting Women who want to lose 5 to 10 pounds? How much more specific will be if you target women who have just had a baby who want to lose the baby weight? The amount of time required to assess a market will depend on your contacts and potential partners now. If you have a list that is aligned with your market then an it will be faster to assess if the focus is working. What will you do to make that assessment? Do you have people that you can test your message with?

Nice! I definitely need to focus a bit more on being selective. I am new enough to focusing on social media sites that I’m not sure exactly what will or will not work yet.
