“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses – only results.” – Ken Blanchard
With the 2014 Winter Olympics only weeks away, Ken Blanchard quote really speaks to what drives Olympians. They don’t make excuses they drive for results. They put all of their energy toward one goal. It might be to represent their country at the Olympics, to win a medal or to bring home gold. They set a goal and they put everything they’ve got into achieving it. They work toward their goals even when it isn’t convenient, when their bodies want to stop; they keep going.
Do you have something that you’ve been trying to achieve but you aren’t taking the steps to get there. Is is more of an interest versus an commitment? What will it take to move to make that commitment?

For years, I’ve wanted to travel to New Zealand to visit friends. I’ve been saving miles to trade in and take the trip. I finally committed to making the trip as a celebration for my 25-year biz anniversary. I’m proud to say that I took the trip at last. I’m actually sitting in the airport on my return trip home as I write this.
If New Zealand isn’t on your “bucket list”, it should be. What a beautiful country.

I believe to be really committed you need to have a bigger vision or really juicy why that will pull you forward even when the going gets tough. If the big ‘why’ is missing thats when the task gets reduced to interest only. The many new year resolutions which are made only to be broken ina short space of time are a good example of this.

Losing weight should be a commitment of mine – but it seems it’s only a passing interest. LOL What will it take to make it a commitment? Danged if I know. Not sure what it will take, but I keep looking for that missing piece.

My blog hasn’t been a commitment until recently. If I want to truly build a connection with people, I have to buckle down and stay focused on my goals. Olympians have that sense of drive that I can only dream of having! I can only hope to focus on more days than I don’t.
