As Entrepreneurs we always have an endless to-do list and often our minds are spinning between creativity, delivery and sales. It is easy to get buried in and overwhelmed by the details and loss sight of the bigger picture.
- Lead Management
- Sales Conversion
- Products/Services Management
- Customer Service
- General Management
All of these tasks are important but to be successful, to create income, to make a difference for your target market you need to focus on how much attention your give each area.
You can have the best, most amazing products and services but if you haven’t spend time developing and nurturing your market who is going to know about them? Whether your business goals is to sell to 20 or 20,000 clients without generating leads and making sales you will not achieve your goal.
On the other hand you might have the best connections, the best list and the best reputation but without a clear and simple offering people won’t know what to buy from you. I learnt this one the hard way, in the past I created great relationships with business people through networking and have a great reputation but I didn’t have a clear marketing message and clean offering. I did well but it was hard work making the sales.
The trick is to balance your time and focus between the areas and learn to work more effectively.
Each of us needs to define your ideal breakdown of how you use your time. I went through this exercise and applied it and my results have dramatically changed. I’m working smarter and I’m getting the important things done and reach more of my market.
My personal breakdown goal per week is:
- Lead Management – 40%
- Sales Conversion – 20%
- Products/Services Management – 10%
- Customer Service – 10%
- General Management – 20%
I’ve found that there are times when these percentages move based on a particular activity, for example creating a marketing campaign. However by being aware of the breakdown it is easier to keep your mind’s eye on the other activities.
The breakdown will be different if you are doing a lot of one on one work but I’d still suggest that the times outside of one on one work is still broken down in a similar way.
