“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” – Michael Althsuler
“Time flies. It’s up to you to be the navigator.” – Robert Orben
Time has flown for me! I’m surprised to discover that I haven’t blogged for 3 weeks! Where did those 3 weeks go? What did I accomplish? All good questions that I need to explore.
My accountability partner asked what I’d accomplished in the last couple of weeks and I had a hard time answering. I know I’ve been busy, between my business and personal responsibilities. I know I’ve accomplished things but I couldn’t summaries what they were. More importantly I couldn’t measure what I’ve accomplish from a business stand point.
The two quotes above really hit home. I need to be the pilot and navigator of my time. It is mine to do with as I please. It is time to be more aware of where the time goes and what I’m accomplishing.
Does that ever happen to you? You’re working away and all of a sudden it is 2, 3 or 4 weeks later and it is hard to see what you’ve accomplished? What do you do when it happens? What have you put in place so that you avoid this happening?

A year later after retiring and focusing on building my business online, I have discovered the value of a list and managing my time.
Thinks I never really did well in a corporate world I am now doing really well in my home business.
You control time, you don’t let it control you. Accomplishments are achieved through consistent and trackable work.
Thank you for this post.

Oh yes…. time does seem to fly right by and before we know it, it is like sand escaping through our fingers. I also keep a daily “to do” list to try to keep on top of things I need to accomplish.

Yes, Time flies for me. Sometimes I don’t even know what day of the week it is (like last week, which is why I’m so late getting to this list of blogs!!). As I get older, time goes faster (which I understand is pretty normal) but I also find more to do. It’s a cycle that works for me!

I definitely need to get the pilot thing down! Yes, I also can find myself a few weeks off the mark at certain tasks.

I find that if I write down what I do everyday (write everything) it is apparent that my days are very full and very productive. That said it’s when I don’t get the BIG tasks done (the ones that are stressing me out) that I feel like I haven’t accomplished a thing, regardless of the fact that I’ve been running around all day. I listened to a great audio training that has helped me out quite a bit. It’s called Eat that Frog…highly recommend it!

I definitely see that time flies by. As the quote says, I need to become the pilot. Not sure if I’ve quite mastered that yet..

Great article! Time does flies. I think it is up to us to make the best use of the time that we do have. Many time I feel like I NEED to make a list in order for me to get anything done. I hate looking back in the previous weeks only to realize that I didn’t get around to completing the things that needed to be done.

My, does time fly? It seems the weeks just sail by. This past year I have really pushed to write a new blog every week.. it has been a difficult journey & I have failed several times but have been more consistent than previously. Its definitely been worth it as the traffic to my blog has increased a great deal.

Oh, yes, it happened all the time! But the good news is that we can always re-direct our actions to be more productive, right? For me, have worked to have a partner for accountability, keeps me on track of everything!

Hi Heather!
Yes, it happens to me too! I always do things for my clients, so sometimes I need to hold on my project (MyPetSpirit). ๐

You are not alone! 3 months went by and I was like—Wow time flys!

Time definitely flies! Sometimes its good though to have those times when you kind of just ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ and then to be able to refocus!!
Gilly says
Heather this definitely happens to me, usually I’ve been doing things for everybody else! It’s nice to be reminded that we need to be aware of our time and accomplishments ๐

Love your graphic. We all sufer with time flying by and not always being in charge or knowing what we accomplished. It may be because many of the tasks we do daily are repitious and its hard to distinguish one day from the next.

Owning online businesses like we do often leads to “shiny object syndrome”; at least for me it does. Learning to control my wandering eye as much as possible has helped me manage time better. Sometimes ๐

Times flies by for me when I lose track of my purpose and vision. As long as I’m mindful, I stay present and pilot/navigate with intention. When I’m mindless, I lose direction and don;t accomplish much.

Some times I don’t even know what day it is! Tuesday feels like Friday! Friday feels like Monday!! Business is so fun and the people are so great that I find myself anxious to get up every morning and see what’s going to happen! Time flies, indeed, so it’s important to enjoy every moment!
Connie, Side Gig Coach says
Gee, I hadn’t noticed, LOL! I’ve found that if I can manage (or avoid) the “shiny object syndrome” I can save SOME time but that is often easier said than done. Sometimes I long for the “olden days” when life was simpler and a bit slower.

I agree that the days and weeks just fly by, and some things on the list don’t get done. I’ve found I have to pick the things that are critically important … and to me article writing is on that list. But lots of other things fall off! ๐

Time sometimes get away from me. Finding that balance between personal and business has also been a challenge

Oh yes, time has a way of running away from us! I noticed that myself in March; I had a full plate and the blogging got laid by the wayside. Happily am back on track! ๐

Hi Heather,
You know a day that doesn’t “fly” by that I don’t think about this. This has been hitting me hard over the past year and when I look at how fast time flies, it’s not funny but sometimes if we’re not careful, we can always be “busy” and years ago I used to think that it was good to be “busy” but being “busy” didn’t get me where I wanted to go. Good thing I’ve realized it and started to really hone in on what I needed to do to accomplish my tasks.
Meryl Hershey Beck says
I agree. Time can definitely get away from you. I find that having a “To Do” list can help keep you on track be a and organized. Of course there are times that something happens in my day and I find myself not getting everything done that I should have. Having tools in place to help manage your time can do wonders.
Alexandra McAllister says
Yes, I agree time flies. Not only do weeks go by quickly but I’ve found that months do as well. The more I have to do, the less time I have for myself and the time does fly by! Lately (the last month) I’ve made it a point to relax and unwind and take deep breaths! Thanks for sharing your article. I hope you take out some “me time” for yourself. ๐
